If you are in that era where you have a curious toddler but haven't gotten to the point where they are old enough for organized sports yet, here is a round up of some gear to get them exposed to some of the basics.
Around the age of 3 my son became obsessed with all things sports and so we stocked up on some essentials to have around our house knowing he wanted to try a lot of different things, from his first tennis racquet to a junior size basketball to his first set of golf clubs.

If you have a little one you want to get on the ice at a young age, start with these Bauer youth velcro skates, recommended for age 5 and under. After that you will want to switch to lace ups. Sizing for skates is odd, you will want to size down a whole size in these.
